Responsible To: Headteacher / Assistant Headteacher (Inclusion & Safeguarding)
Main Purpose of the Role
To champion inclusion, attendance, and welfare across the school by serving as a Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL), supporting pupil attendance, and coordinating targeted support for pupils and their families. The postholder will oversee referrals to external mental health and social care agencies, perform regular monitoring and quality assurance checks on Alternative Provisions, conduct home visits, and actively engage pupils who are at risk of persistent absence or emotionally based school avoidance (EBSA) and support young carers within the school.
Key Responsibilities & Duties1. Safeguarding & Child Protection (Designated Safeguarding Lead)Act as a Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) in line with Keeping Children Safe in Education (KCSIE) and Norfolk Safeguarding Children Partnership guidelines.
Respond promptly to child protection concerns, manage detailed record-keeping via safeguarding systems (e.g., CPOMS), and contribute to multi-agency meetings (Child in Need, Child Protection, Team Around the Family)
Act as a key contact for children’s services, police, and healthcare professionals to ensure joined-up support for vulnerable pupils.
2. Attendance & Re-engagement
Monitor, track, and analyze pupil attendance data to identify early patterns of absence or persistent absenteeism.
Formulate and implement individualized attendance plans for pupils facing barriers to attending school, particularly those experiencing emotionally based school avoidance or complex SEND-related challenges.
Carry out regular, planned home visits to build trust with families, assess pupil well-being, and support reintegration into school.
3. Mental Health, Family Support & External ReferralsLead and process referrals to external agencies, including Early Help, CAMHS/NSFT, Family Support, and specialist local SEND/mental health organizations.
Work collaboratively with families to overcome barriers to learning, providing practical advice, signposting services, and delivering compassionate relational support.
Support pupils with wider barriers to learning such as being a young carer, refugee etc.
4. Alternative Provision (AP) Oversight & Quality AssuranceMaintain regular monitoring schedules and conduct on-site check-ins for pupils placed in off-site or Alternative Provisions.
Verify pupil attendance, safety, progression, and physical/emotional well-being at AP settings.
Ensure all AP providers adhere to the school’s stringent safeguarding standards, risk assessment protocols, and quality assurance frameworks.
5. General ResponsibilitiesMaintain clear, accurate, and confidential records in accordance with GDPR and school policy.
Engage in continuous professional development (CPD), including required DSL training and specialist SEND/attendance modules.
Promote the ethos, vision, and values of The Parkside School at all times, prioritizing pupil dignity, communication, and independence.

Qualifications
Level 2 or above qualification (or equivalent) in Education, Social Care, Childcare, or relevant discipline.
GCSE Grade C/4 or above in English and Maths (or equivalent).
Recognized Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) training certificate.
Qualifications in Mental Health First Aid or Relational/Trauma-Informed Practice.
Experience
Substantial experience working with children and young people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), complex behaviors, or SEMH.
Proven experience handling safeguarding concerns and participating in multi-agency working.
Experience conducting family support work or home visits.
Experience managing attendance or addressing Emotionally Based School Avoidance (EBSA).
Experience reviewing or quality-assuring Alternative Provision placements.
Knowledge & Understanding
Strong understanding of current statutory guidance (KCSIE, Working Together to Safeguard Children).
Knowledge of local authority Early Help pathways and social care structures in Norfolk.
Understanding of the social, emotional, and communication barriers facing pupils with significant learning disabilities.
Familiarity with CPOMS or similar safeguarding software.
Knowledge of trauma-informed approaches and relational behavior management.
Skills & Attributes
Exceptional interpersonal and active listening skills.
Excellent organizational and case-management skills with meticulous attention to record-keeping.
Ability to maintain calm, professional boundaries in high-stress situations.
Must hold a full UK driving license and have access to a vehicle for business use.

THE ROLE
We are seeking an empathetic, resilient, and highly organised Pupil Inclusion Coordinator to play a critical role in our safeguarding and pastoral team.
Key Responsibilities:
Safeguarding Leadership: Act as a Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL), managing pupil welfare and participating in multi-agency casework.
Attendance & Re-engagement: Track attendance patterns, conduct supportive home visits, and create tailored plans for pupils facing barriers to attendance including young carers and refugee status.
Mental Health & Family Support: Coordinate referrals to CAMHS, Early Help, and local specialist organisations.
Alternative Provision Quality Assurance: Carry out routine check-ins and quality checks for pupils attending off-site Alternative Provisions.
