Regional HR Partner job summary

At Greenshaw Learning Trust, we believe that great people make a real difference to the lives of children and young people. We are looking for an experienced Regional HR Partner to join our growing HR team and play a key role in supporting our schools, leaders and people across the Sutton and Outer London region.

This is a role for an HR professional who enjoys being trusted to provide expert advice, build strong relationships and find practical solutions to complex people issues.

You’ll work closely with Headteachers, senior leaders and School HR Leads, providing professional advice across the full range of HR and employee relations matters. You’ll also work alongside our central HR team on Trust-wide projects, helping us develop consistent, effective and forward-thinking people practices as GLT continues to grow.

What will you be doing?

You’ll be the professional HR Partner to a group of GLT schools across the Sutton and Croydon area, supporting leaders with everything from day-to-day people matters through to complex employee relations cases and organisational change.

Your work will include:

  • Providing expert advice on employment law, employee relations and people management.
  • Supporting complex casework including disciplinary, grievance, capability, absence, restructures, redundancy and TUPE.
  • Advising Headteachers on recruitment, workforce planning and effective recruitment and selection.
  • Leading and supporting formal HR meetings and helping managers build their confidence and capability.
  • Line managing School HR Leads and supporting their development.
  • Supporting the integration of new schools into GLT, including HR due diligence and TUPE.
  • Working with colleagues on HR projects, policies, reporting and workforce data.
  • Using HR metrics and workforce information to identify trends and support effective decision-making.
  • Providing guidance on payroll, pensions and other employment-related matters.
  • Helping to ensure that HR practice is consistent, compliant and effective across the Trust.

You’ll be part of a collaborative shared services HR team comprising HR professionals across regional HR, employee relations, HR systems, recruitment and people development. You’ll have the opportunity to share ideas, learn from colleagues and contribute to work that has an impact well beyond your own group of schools.

What are we looking for?

We’re looking for an experienced HR professional with strong employment law and employee relations knowledge and the confidence to advise and challenge senior leaders when needed.

You’ll need:

  • Substantial experience in a senior or generalist HR role.
  • Strong knowledge of employment law and experience applying it in complex situations.
  • Experience of managing complex employee relations and organisational change.
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
  • The ability to balance competing priorities and work confidently across a varied organisation.
  • Experience of coaching and supporting managers to develop their people management skills.
  • Strong judgement, problem-solving skills and the ability to provide practical advice.
  • CIPD Level 5 or equivalent, with Chartered CIPD membership or equivalent status, or working towards it.
  • A current driving licence and access to a car, as regular travel to GLT schools will be required.

Experience of working in education, including knowledge of the Burgundy and Green Book, and experience of ITrent or another HRIS would be advantageous.

Why join Greenshaw Learning Trust?

GLT is a growing and collaborative community of schools across South London, Berkshire, Surrey, Gloucestershire, South Gloucestershire and Plymouth. We believe in sharing the very best practice, supporting one another and always learning.

You’ll join a team where HR is not simply about processes and policies. It’s about helping our schools create the conditions in which staff can thrive and, ultimately, giving more young people the opportunity to succeed.

The role can be home-based or based at our Shared Services office in Oru Sutton, with regular travel to GLT schools as required. You’ll also receive 26 days’ annual leave plus two additional days and access to the Local Government Pension Scheme or a personal pension scheme.

Interested?

If you’re an experienced HR professional looking for a role where you can use your expertise, build trusted relationships and make a genuine difference across a growing education organisation, we’d love to hear from you.
