School Caretaker job summary
This is an exciting opportunity for a Caretaker to join St. Francis CE Primary School, a happy and thriving school for children aged 3-11 in East Oxford.
This is a permanent position for 25 hours per week on a split shift basis (7.00am – 9.00am then 3.00pm – 6.00pm Mon-Fri inclusive). We are however open to a conversation about start and finish times for the right candidate. The role is predominantly term-term only with additional weeks during school holidays.
This is challenging and responsible position within our school. The post-holder will be resilient, self-motivated, flexible, organised and a good team player. The successful candidate will work with and report to the School Office Manager.
As a Caretaker at St Francis CE Primary School, you will be making a difference in our school community on a daily basis by ensuring the school and its grounds are maintained to the highest standard to create a safe, clean and attractive environment for all.
The successful candidate will:
- Support the overall ethos and aims of the school community.
- Ensure the smooth running of the school premises.
- Be highly motivated and have good problem-solving skills.
- Have knowledge of health and safety practices, security and hygiene issues.
- Assist with the maintenance and upkeep of the premises, including carrying out minor repairs, decorating or groundskeeping, or instructing contractors where appropriate.
- Undertake regular checks and tests to ensure necessary safe operation and that legislative requirements are met.
- Carry out any cleaning duties required both in school and on the school grounds, in addition to managing the day-to-day work allocation of cleaners.
- Enjoy working as part of a team, be adaptable and supportive of colleagues.
- Have excellent organisation and communication skills.
- Participate in statutory training and any continuous professional development deemed necessary for the role
- Have good literacy and numeracy skills (GCSE English and Maths or equivalent)
- Ideally have previous experience in facilities management, caretaking or similar roles.
