SENCO job summary

Be the champion of inclusion. Shape lives. Lead change.

Oasis Academy Don Valley is seeking an inspirational, skilled and compassionate SENCO to lead and develop outstanding provision for pupils with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND). This is a rare opportunity to make a lasting impact within a vibrant, values‑led academy that is deeply committed to inclusion, achievement and community.

As SENCO, you will play a pivotal strategic role in shaping SEND provision across the academy, working closely with the Principal, senior leaders, staff, families and external agencies to ensure every child is supported to flourish academically, socially and emotionally. You will be the driving force behind an ambitious and inclusive SEND vision, leading both its strategic development and day‑to‑day delivery. With clarity, expertise and compassion, you will ensure statutory requirements are met while coordinating high‑quality, personalised support for pupils with a wide range of needs. Through strong partnerships with teachers, teaching assistants, parents, carers and external professionals, you will create a joined‑up approach that places children firmly at the heart of every decision. By rigorously monitoring, evaluating and refining provision, you will maximise the impact of interventions, champion inclusive practice and empower colleagues through training and guidance. Alongside teaching responsibility, this role offers the opportunity to influence provision at classroom level while playing a key part in whole‑school improvement and safeguarding.

We are looking for a passionate and committed SEND leader who:

  • Holds Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
  • Has, or is willing to work towards, the National SENCO Award
  • Demonstrates a strong understanding of the SEND Code of Practice
  • Is highly organised, empathetic and resilient
  • Can inspire colleagues and build trusting professional relationships
  • Is deeply committed to safeguarding and inclusive practice
  • Shares and actively supports the Oasis ethos and values

Experience as a SENCO or Inclusion Manager is desirable; however, we also welcome applications from ambitious educators ready to take the next step in their leadership journey.

At Oasis Academy Don Valley, we believe that every child is unique, valued and capable of achieving excellence. Our work is grounded in strong relationships, high expectations and an inclusive ethos shaped by compassion, equality and hope. By joining us, you will become part of a supportive and forward‑thinking leadership team that genuinely values SEND, within a collaborative staff culture where professional growth is actively encouraged. You will be welcomed into a school community committed to removing barriers to learning and ensuring every pupil can thrive, while benefiting from the strength of the wider Oasis Community Learning family, with access to exceptional CPD and trusted SEN networks.

If you are driven by inclusion, motivated by impact, and ready to lead with heart and purpose, we would love to hear from you.
