What skills and experience we're looking for
At Oulton, we think for ourselves and care for each other and we are proud to be an inclusive school. As a school, we celebrate everybody’s individual abilities, strengths, and learning journey. From September 2024, we are looking for experienced teaching assistants (30 hours per week) to join our team as we continue to expand our bespoke inclusion unit within the school. The aim of our provision is to complement the learning that pupils with complex SEND needs receive by providing a blend of personalised, 1-1/small group learning experiences whilst enabling pupils to access aspects of the wider year group curriculum. By providing specific support to develop these pupils’ learning, social and emotional skills, it is our aim that they can remain actively engaged in wider school life. The successful candidate, working alongside a SEND teacher and the school’s SENDCo, will be part of a small team of support staff to ensure that pupils receive the targeted support they need. This an exciting opportunity for the right people to take key roles in our provision.
Due to current funding arrangements, these positions are initially for one year, but we hope that they will be sustainable in future years. The posts are suitable for support staff who have a solid understanding/experience of supporting children with SEND/SEMH needs. Candidates need to have a passion for supporting pupils with SEND.
We do demand a lot but our children deserve the best, so we need the best people to bring their enthusiasm, experience, skills and commitment to Oulton.
Our vision for our SEND provision is difficult to explain in an advert so we warmly invite interested candidates to contact the school to find out more and to discuss the role. Appointments to visit the school can be arranged on request.
We are looking for support staff who have…
- Enthusiasm for creative learning activities
- A passion for developing personalised learning opportunities to meet specific needs
- Experience of working with a range of complex SEND needs within a specialist or mainstream setting
- Skills and enthusiasm for working with children with SEMH needs
- Knowledge of the EYFS and KS1 curriculum and other related incremental target setting documents such as EYFS Developmental Journals and/or Bsquared
- The ability to work well with other professionals/outside agencies to implement/deliver/assess recommended programmes of work and contribute to statutory reviews
- The highest expectations of themselves and their pupils
- Excellent interpersonal and organisation skills
- Experience of working proactively, with empathy, in teams
- Flexibility, sense of humour and a ‘can do’ attitude
What the school offers its staff
We can offer…
- A happy school community where children are eager to learn
- A modern, stimulating learning environment both inside and outside
- Opportunities and support to develop and enhance your career
- Supportive, committed governors, staff and parents/carers, within a close but diverse community
First and foremost, we want skilled staff who can provide good/outstanding learning for our children.
Conversations about the role, by appointment, are strongly encouraged
