Senior ICT Technician job summary
We are looking to appoint a knowledgeable and professional individual to support our current provision of effective technical services to Greenford High School students and staff.
About Greenford High School
Over the last decade we have consistently achieved outcomes that have placed us in the top 5-10% of schools nationally for student progress. We aim for all students to achieve excellent academic results, but we are also a truly comprehensive school which tries to get the best out of every child, whatever their ability or circumstances. We are known for our exceptionally strong relationships between staff and students. Our facilities are superb with a university campus style layout and extensive IT facilities. We also have one of the largest Post-16 Centres in London with designated study and support areas.
Our IT Department
The team consists of 4 staff members; our Network Manager and Senior Technician both have a strong knowledge of the school’s network, and both have been working at the school for over 7 years. Greenford High School maintains most of its’ IT services in house The school owns all our hardware infrastructure including servers, networking equipment and all client endpoints. You will therefore have the opportunity to gain hands-on experience with a variety of technologies, some of these include Active Directory (AD), ZENWorks, Microsoft Admin Centre, Google Admin Console. You will also be working with a range of hardware; Promethean activpanels, laptops, chromebooks and desktops.

Job Description
Purpose of the post: The Senior ICT Technician will support the provision of effective technical services to Greenford High School.
Accountable to: IT Network Manager
Duties:
Answering helpdesk phone calls and fielding the helpdesk ticket queue.
Providing first and second-line IT support to staff and students.
Leading the IT technician and delegating tickets as required.
Troubleshooting complex issues raised by 1st line technicians.
Assisting the Network Manager in the delivery of projects.
Assisting in the maintenance of the school network infrastructure including switches, Windows server, Wi-Fi, Firewall, VLAN, DHCP.
Liaising with 3rd party companies for projects and orders as requested by the IT Network Manager.
Installing and configuring hardware and software components to ensure usability.
Troubleshooting hardware and software issues.
Repairing or replacing damaged hardware.
Installing and upgrading anti-virus software to ensure security at the user level.
Performing tests and evaluations on new software and hardware (User Acceptance Tests - UATs).
Provide support, on a rota basis at school evening functions when needed.
Asset Management - To ensure all IT equipment is recorded in the school’s asset management system and to keep asset records up to date.
Establishing good relationships with all departments and colleagues.
Managing technical documentation.
Software
Install software bundles through ZENworks on workstations, update and restore as necessary.
PaperCut administration for printing services
Microsoft Entra, Active Directory, Group Policies, Google Admin Console administration.
To log software faults with external agencies and to actively monitor them until their successful resolution.
To keep records of Software and Licenses and update as necessary.
Assisting with the installation of online IT tests.
User Admin and Support
Using Active Directory to create and delete users as required, assign permissions and troubleshoot user profile, assist with start and end of year procedures where required.
Ensure that helpdesk support requests are dealt with within an acceptable timescale and to user satisfaction, giving priority as appropriate to request.
Be familiar with Google Workspace (Previously GSuite) and Google Admin Console.
To support staff, when requested, in their use of IT software and hardware.
Assist in managing the administration of the phone system and trouble-shoot issues as required.
To apply for the blocking/unblocking of web sites as requested by staff.
To remove/reinstate students’ internet or network access as requested by staff and keep records.
Restore work for staff and students as requested where possible.
Assist with the technical aspects of the school website and VLE.
General:
Be an effective and flexible member of the IT team.
Be aware of and comply with policies and procedures relating to safeguarding, child protection, health, safety and security, confidentiality and data protection, reporting all concerns to the appropriate person.
Participate in training and other learning activities as required.
Participate in the annual performance review process led by the IT Network Manager and negotiate specific personal development goals, including training needs.
Provide appropriate guidance and supervision and assist in the training and
development of staff as appropriate.
To undertake any other duties and responsibilities as reasonably required by the IT Network Manager
