What skills and experience we're looking for

Site Manager – Parley First School

A full, clean driving licence is preferable, as the postholder may be required to undertake minibus driver training as part of the role

Some people see a school building. You see hundreds of children learning, playing, growing and making memories inside it.

At Parley First School, we know that a great school doesn't happen by accident.

It happens because teachers inspire. Teaching assistants support. Office staff keep everything running.

And because someone makes sure the lights come on, the gates are open, the playground is safe, the heating works, the hall is ready for an assembly, and every child arrives each morning to a place that feels cared for.

We're looking for an additional Site Manager to join our existing part-time postholder and take genuine pride in creating safe, welcoming and well-maintained environments where children and staff can thrive.

This is a role for somebody who enjoys variety, likes solving problems, takes ownership and satisfaction in a job well done, and understands that the work they do behind the scenes makes a real difference every single day.

What you'll do

You'll be responsible for the overall management, safety, maintenance and presentation of our school site, ensuring it remains a place that our children, staff and community can be proud of.

Your role will include:

  • Maintaining the security of the school site, acting as a keyholder and overseeing fire and security systems.

  • Planning and coordinating maintenance, repairs and improvement projects.

  • Managing contractors and ensuring work is completed safely and to a high standard.

  • Monitoring the condition of buildings, grounds and facilities, identifying issues before they become problems.

  • Acting as the school's Fire Safety Officer and supporting compliance with health and safety requirements.

  • Overseeing cleaning standards and working closely with cleaning teams and contractors.

  • Managing utilities, monitoring energy usage and contributing to the efficient running of the school.

  • Line managing the lunchtime staff team, providing day-to-day supervision, support and guidance to ensure high standards of pupil safety and behaviour during the lunchtime period.

  • Supporting school events, lettings and community use of the site.

  • Helping to ensure our extensive grounds remain safe, tidy and welcoming throughout the year.

No two days are ever quite the same. One morning might involve meeting contractors and carrying out site checks. The afternoon could involve organising repairs, supporting a school event or solving an unexpected issue before anyone else notices it.

Who you are

We're looking for someone who:

  • Takes pride in high standards and pays attention to detail.

  • Enjoys being hands-on and finding practical solutions to problems.

  • Has experience in premises, facilities, estates, site management or a similar role.

  • Understands health and safety responsibilities and safe working practices.

  • Can manage competing priorities and remain calm under pressure.

  • Builds positive relationships with staff, contractors, visitors and the wider community.

  • Is organised, reliable and able to work independently.

  • Understands that maintaining a school is about more than buildings - it's about creating an environment where children can flourish.

Most importantly, you'll be someone who cares about doing things properly and takes pride in being the person others can rely on.

At the end of the day, most children will never know your name.

But they will learn in classrooms you've helped keep safe. They'll play in outdoor spaces you've helped maintain. They'll come to school each morning because you've helped create an environment where they can thrive.

If that sounds like the kind of difference you'd be proud to make, we'd love to hear from you.
