Sixth Form Housemistress job summary

Position: Sixth Form Housemistress

Location: On site, Westbury-on-Trym BS9 3BA

Hours: This is a full-time role to be worked during term time plus four weeks during the holiday period. During the week, the Housemistress will be entitled to be off duty for the equivalent of 48 hours, which includes a night when she may be away from school and away from the house.

The start date for this position will be 25 August 2026

We are looking for a dynamic and empathetic Housemistress to lead the Sixth Form boarding team. Applications are welcome from both teaching and non-teaching candidates;


Main responsibilities include:

• To be resident within the house at all times during term time, excluding off duty time as outlined below

• Ensure that the welfare, well-being and safety of pupils is, at all times, paramount

• Maintain the discipline and appearance of pupils, and foster a secure and caring atmosphere within the house

• Use every opportunity to cultivate contact and communication with parents, to ensure that they are fully informed about their daughter’s progress and welfare;

• Implement all necessary documentation in line with ISI and National Minimum Standards for Boarding;

• Provide half termly house reports for the Deputy Head(Pastoral) and Head;

• Sleep overnight in her allocated accommodation in case of night time emergencies, excluding off duty time as outlined below


To be considered for this position, we are looking for the following:

• Degree or equivalent qualification

• Experience of working with young people

• The ability to motivate individuals and teams to work effectively

• Highly developed interpersonal skills

• Excellent organisation and time management skills

• Previous experience of working in boarding as well as Qualified Teacher Status would be desirable.
