Student Services Officer job summary

We are seeking to appoint a Student Services Officer for 35 hours per week (8.00 am - 3.30 pm) term time only. The successful applicant will be one of the main first aid officers and support students’ welfare via student services providing several functions to assist our students at the academy.

This is a unique opportunity to join our student services and admin team at Shoreham Academy. The Student Services Officer is a key part of our first aid team offering medical/welfare support to students in support of their health and learning outcomes. The Student Services Officer works closely with our Student Services Manager, a visiting medical nurse and with our child protection and pastoral teams.

You will enjoy working with young people. You should have first aid experience, but we can offer appropriate levels of certified training. You will have emotional intelligence and sensitivity combined with a strength of personality in carrying out this post. This is a demanding post requiring a high level of confidence. The care of our students is a priority in ensuring that any medical needs are met.

We ask that applicants demonstrate how they meet the essential / desirable skills and experience within the person specification in your application. Shortlisted candidates must be available to attend an interview on Tuesday 21st July.

All new employees will be required to undertake an Enhanced DBS check with Barred List information prior to working in school. A new requirement is to carry out online searches on shortlisted candidates and therefore we may ask for a candidate’s name on social media platforms. Two satisfactory references are required from all successful applicants, one of which must be the current or most recent employer. Prohibition order checks are undertaken for all newly appointed teachers and support staff who will be engaged in ‘teaching work’.

All new employees will be required to complete a medical questionnaire.

United Learning reserve the right to request further checks for individuals that have ever lived or worked outside the UK. It is an individual’s obligation to meet these requirements by requesting a Certificate of Good Conduct from that country, or those countries, of residence and (for teachers) a Letter of Professional Standing from the professional regulating authority in the country or those countries in which they worked.

All new employees will be required to read and sign the annual Staff Student Relationship letter upon joining the Academy.

All new employees are required to complete three online safeguarding modules prior to starting work.

Evidence of an individual’s right to work in the UK will be checked at interview. Verification of any mandatory professional qualifications and professional status; relevant certificates or a letter of confirmation from the awarding institution must be provided at interview.
