Full Time and Permanent -required from September 2026
We are looking for an outstanding, creative and experienced Early Years practitioner to work as a Nursery Lead Teacher at Armitage C.E. Primary School. We are offering a TLR for this post, with the successful candidate being asked to further develop our large outdoor Early Years provision, in addition to their responsibilities as a class teacher.
Armitage is a warm and welcoming two-form entry Primary School, at the heart of our diverse local community on the outskirts of Manchester City centre.
Although this role will be based at Armitage, it will be a federated post as part of the Aiming High CE Federation - which comprises of our school, as well as All Saints Primary in Gorton.
We are looking for someone who:
- Is an exceptional Early Years practitioner with a record of making a tangible difference to the children in their care;
- Has sustained experience of planning and delivering a stimulating Early Years curriculum and, in turn, observing and assessing children’s understanding of this learning;
- Can thrive as part of a large Early Years team across our Federation of two schools;
- Has excellent communication skills and enjoys working collaboratively with colleagues – this post will involve liaising closely with practitioners in our 2-year-old provision to ensure effective transition into the Nursery unit;
- Is keen to lead by example, sharing knowledge and expertise with less experienced colleagues who are starting out on their teaching journeys;
- Believes in the importance of developing and educating ‘the whole child’;
- Understands the challenges and undoubted rewards that working in a diverse inner-city school can bring;
- Is looking for a new challenge and/or career progression in a highly supportive, forward-thinking and thriving school environment.
What the school offers its staff
We can offer the successful candidate:
- The opportunity to work with children who ‘value the excellent relationships that they have with staff’ and who describe our school as ‘an oasis of calm’. (OFSTED October 2024);
- A school with a proven track record of excellence, achievement and ambition;
- The chance to shape the futures of some of our youngest learners in our Nursery provision;
- A collaborative working environment as part of the ‘Aiming High C.E. Federation’;
- An opportunity to lead on further shaping and developing our current outdoor provision in the EYFS learning environment;
- A full day of PPA time every fortnight – which can be taken from home - demonstrative of our commitment to reducing staff workload;
- A genuine commitment to staff wellbeing, with weekly rewards and termly events designed to support wellbeing and to promote positive mental health;
- The opportunity to earn an additional day off school each term based on 100% personal attendance;
- An early finish every Friday to enable staff to ‘get away’ and enjoy their weekend sooner;
- A flexible and understanding approach to how the life of a teacher works outside of school – staff are regularly given time to attend events that are important to them and their family;
- A supportive Governing Body and Senior Leadership Team, with opportunities for continued professional development and personal growth being an integral part of our ethos.
We are committed to safer recruitment practice and safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and we expect staff and volunteers to share this commitment. This post is subject to an enhanced disclosure from the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS). Pre-employment checks will be undertaken before any appointment is confirmed.

We are a popular, progressive and inclusive school located in Ardwick, two miles outside of Manchester City Centre. There is much redevelopment currently taking place in the local area and our school is integral to this regeneration. Many of our children come from our local area however, due to our excellent reputation, many families travel a significant distance to attend Armitage; in fact, 50% of our school population are EAL learners, with children coming from all over the world to be part of our community! We have recently become part of ‘The Aiming High C.E. Federation’, a newly formed group of schools which currently includes ourselves and All Saints Primary in Gorton – it’s only a short drive between the two sites!
