Staffing and structure - The Design and Technology team consists of three teachers and one full time department technician. The Head of Design and Technology has the overview of all initiatives and practices, and teachers are encouraged to plan together and share best practice in order to provide students with the highest quality of lessons.
Accommodation - We have two fully functioning workshops, with a range of metalwork and woodwork machines and equipment. A heat treatment area with sand casting facilities, brazing hearths. A newly refurbished computer suite with 32 networked computers, 2D and 3D computer programs. A laser cutter and three 3D printers which students will use in every year group.
Courses - Students in Year 7, 8 and 9 receive two hours of Design Technology teaching per 10-day cycle and they follow the current National Curriculum. Classes will have up to three projects during the course of the year which will introduce them to a wide variety of materials and production methods. At Key Stage 4, students follow the AQA specification. They receive 6 lessons in a 10-day cycle.
Enrichment activities - We participate in a variety of competitions, both in-house and nationally, including the McLaren Challenge, Design Ventura, Product in a Tin and house competitions.
