What skills and experience we're looking for

Essential:


Education to at least GCSE Level

Experience in supporting children's learning in a school environment

Recent experience of working with children with additional needs

Flexible and able to use own initiative

Can work as a member of a team

Positive attitude

Good communicator

Good behaviour management skills

Some ICT skills

Knowledge of what constitutes quality and high standards in learning and teaching

Inclusion and strategies for engaging all learners

Appropriate and successful relationships with children

Knowledge of the National Curriculum

A commitment to the welfare of children

A willingness to use a variety of teaching strategies to engage all learners

High expectations of everyone

A commitment to practical learning and making learning fun

An awareness of the confidential nature of the post

Excellent attendance record

Good interpersonal/communication skills

An excellent rapport with children and a sense of humour

The ability to work flexibly

The ability to prioritise and use own initiative

Desirable:

English and Maths A-C grade at GCSE level (or equivalent)

Further or Higher Education

Classroom Assistant Course

Aware of importance of further learning

Experience in supporting English and Mathematics in school

Experience of working with children with SEND including speech, language and communications needs, ASD and global developmental delay

Training courses completed in SEND e.g. autism, speech and language etc.

Supporting SEND children in the classroom including making assessments and reporting back to the class teacher

Supporting and nurturing emotional literacy within the classroom

Working with pupils who have additional needs

Keen to take part in the wider life of the school

Able to do additional hours when required
