Heather Garth Primary Academy is a welcoming, inclusive primary school seeking to appoint an enthusiastic NQT and dedicated Foundation Stage 1 Teacher to join our Early Years team on a temporary basis. There may be an opportunity for the post to become permanent, subject to staffing needs and funding.
We are looking for a passionate practitioner who understands the importance of early childhood education and can provide a nurturing, stimulating environment where every child feels safe, valued, and inspired to learn.

We are looking for someone who:
- Has Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
- Has experience or strong understanding of the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) Framework
- Demonstrates excellent classroom practice in early years education
- Creates engaging, inclusive learning environments
- Has high expectations for behaviour, learning, and wellbeing
- Works effectively as part of a team
- Builds positive relationships with children, parents, and colleagues

Job Purpose
To deliver high-quality teaching and learning within Foundation Stage 1 (Nursery), supporting children’s development across all areas of the EYFS curriculum and ensuring a safe, inclusive,
and stimulating learning environment.
Key Responsibilities
Teaching and Learning
- Plan, deliver, and assess learning in line with the EYFS statutory framework
- Provide engaging, play-based learning opportunities
- Support children’s personal, social, emotional, and academic development
- Use assessment effectively to inform planning and next steps
- Create a stimulating indoor and outdoor learning environment
- Promote early language development and communication skills
Assessment and Progress
- Observe, assess, and record children’s learning and development
- Maintain accurate records in line with school policies
- Contribute to progress reports and parent consultations
- Identify and support children with additional needs

Safeguarding and Welfare
- Safeguard and promote the welfare of all pupils
- Follow school safeguarding and child protection procedures
- Support children’s wellbeing, independence, and self-confidence
Partnership with Parents
- Build strong relationships with parents and carers
- Communicate children’s learning and development effectively
- Support home-school learning partnerships
Professional Responsibilities
- Work collaboratively with EYFS staff and support staff
- Participate in staff meetings, training, and school events
- Contribute to the wider life of the school
- Uphold Teachers’ Standards and school policies

Criteria Essential
Qualifications
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
- Relevant teaching qualification
Experience
- Experience teaching in Early Years or Foundation Stage
- Knowledge of EYFS curriculum and assessment
Knowledge & Skills
- Understanding of child development (ages 3–5)
- Strong behaviour management skills
- Ability to plan creative and inclusive learning
- Good communication and teamwork skills
- Commitment to safeguarding and inclusion
Personal Qualities
- Warm, nurturing approach
- Enthusiastic and reflective practitioner
- Flexible and adaptable
- Commitment to raising standards for all children
Desirable Criteria
- Experience in Nursery (FS1)
- Knowledge of phonics and early language development
- Experience supporting SEND pupils
- Experience working with parents and multi-agency professionals
- Paediatric First Aid trained
