What skills and experience we're looking for

Education and Experience:

  • Demonstrable levels of numeracy & literacy equivalent to GCSE.
  • Previous experience working with children aged 4-11 years, preferably in an education setting.
  • Experience of leading and managing a team
  • You must be computer literate, able to access emails and respond, competent to complete online training.


  • Duties and responsibilities:
    • Ensure children are safe ‐ adhering to the school’s safeguarding policies, practices and procedures.
    • Developing and maintaining high standards throughout to ensure the welfare of the children at all times.
    • Managing, co-ordinating and leading the Wrap Around Care team (afterschool).
    • Working with the Business Manager to support the appraisal process. Delivering any necessary training and mentoring staff to ensure all staff feel empowered and competent.
    • Ensure children have access to appropriate activities to support their physical, emotional, social and intellectual development giving consideration to families' ethnic, cultural and linguistic backgrounds, ensuring that the school's Equal Opportunities Policy is adhered to.
    • Maintain the after school club to an agreed standard of cleanliness and hygiene, before, during and at the end of each session.
    • Prepare and complete all paperwork necessary for the smooth running of the club.
    • Keep records for children; contact details, dietary and medical information, emergency contacts and who can collect children from club.
    • Maintain daily registers of attendance.
    • Follow all health and safety requirements.
    • Administer first aid when necessary, following correct procedures, and recording injuries as appropriate.
    • Plan and lead a variety of extra-curricular activities.
    • Prepare and serve healthy and nutritious meals following the School Food Standards.
    • To supervise the safe escorting of children to ensure their wellbeing at all times.
    • Ensure confidentiality is adhered to at all times.
    • To deal with any immediate problems or emergencies arising according to the school's policies and procedures.
    • To report back to the appropriate member of staff using the school's agreed referral procedures on the behaviour of pupils during the after school club, or any other issues that may be relevant.
    • To promote and reinforce school policies, practices and procedures, including an understanding of child protection and health and safety responsibilities.
    • The post holder will be expected to act as an adult role model and support school policies when dealing with pupils, parents, carers, visitors and all members of the school community.
    • To carry out any other duties reasonably requested by the Line Manager.
    • The duties may be varied to meet changed circumstances in a manner compatible with the post held, at the reasonable direction of the Line Manager.

Orchard Primary School are looking to appoint a dynamic, enthusiastic, hardworking and motivated leader for our after-school club. You will lead the afterschool club team and work alongside other staff to provide safe, high quality care and activities for extremely well-behaved children aged 4-11 years. This will include planning a range of extra-curricular activities.

Responsible for:

  • Encouraging and supporting the Afterschool club team to provide a safe and stimulating environment for the children providing creative and appropriate play and relaxation opportunities.
  • Ensuring the safety and wellbeing of pupils and the adherence to the agreed school procedures.
  • Communicating with parents and other stakeholder, and marketing the club positively.
  • Working in partnership with other staff members, to implement and review policies and practices and follow the school’s principles and ethos.
  • Interacting with the children and encouraging positive social skills during indoor or outdoor play.

Purpose of Job:

To perform and supervise the day-to-day organisation and operational aspects of the club to provide a safe, stimulating, fun, approachable and well managed Breakfast Club. To fulfil all legal and statutory requirements; to contribute to and implement all club policies.
