Year 7 Transition Progress and Standards Leader (alongside teaching) job summary

We are seeking an ambitious, committed and inspirational teacher to take on the role of Year 7 Transition Progress and Standards Leader. This is a teaching role with leadership responsibilities, providing an exciting opportunity to make a significant impact on students at one of the most important stages of their secondary education.

The successful candidate will provide strategic leadership for the Year 7 cohort, ensuring that students make a confident, safe and successful transition from primary to secondary school and establish the foundations for long-term success.

Key responsibilities will include:

• Leading Year 6 to Year 7 transition, working closely with primary schools, pupils and families to ensure a smooth and well-informed transition.
• Building a strong Year 7 culture, with high expectations for behaviour, attendance, punctuality, learning habits, respectful relationships and student conduct.
• Leading the Year 7 tutor team, ensuring consistent routines, communication, standards and support across the year group.
• Monitoring attendance, behaviour and academic progress, using data and professional judgement to identify emerging concerns and take timely action.
• Supporting inclusion and vulnerable students, ensuring that SEND, disadvantaged, EAL, high prior-attaining and previously low-attending pupils are identified, known and appropriately supported.
• Promoting belonging and personal development, including leading assemblies, tutor-time themes, pupil voice, celebration and character development.
• Working collaboratively with pastoral, attendance, SEND, safeguarding and curriculum teams to ensure support is joined up and effective.
• Building positive relationships with parents and carers, communicating early and constructively where concerns around attendance, behaviour, progress or wellbeing arise.
• Providing strategic oversight of Year 7 standards, identifying trends and evaluating the impact of interventions rather than simply responding to individual incidents.
• Reporting to senior leaders on Year 7 attendance, behaviour, progress, transition and priority pupils, helping to shape further improvement.
• Maintaining a teaching commitment, modelling excellent classroom practice and contributing positively to the wider life and development of the school.

This role would suit a teacher who is passionate about student outcomes, pastoral care, inclusion and high standards, and who can combine warmth and strong relationships with calm authority, consistency and professional optimism.

You will be expected to use data intelligently, identify needs early, work collaboratively with colleagues and families, and lead with a clear focus on securing the best possible outcomes for every Year 7 student.
