Achievement Assistant (working with a child with a vision impairment) job summary
We are seeking to appoint a committed, experienced and highly motivated Achievement Assistant with excellent interpersonal skills. This is an exciting opportunity to join our school, supporting a vision impaired child in a mainstream class, as Achievement Assistant TA2 increasing to TA3 following training in Braille.
This position will be offered at TA3 to suitable applicants who can already demonstrate the additional Braille skills and qualifications required to fulfil the job description, though unqualified candidates are welcome to apply as training will be given.
The successful applicant will be required to undertake the duties of an Achievement Assistant, supporting a child with a vision impairment within the mainstream school. They will work with teachers to support the learning, educational progress and inclusion of the pupil, with the aim of narrowing any attainment gap they have with their peers. The Achievement Assistant will give assistance to the pupil so that they can access the curriculum, participate in learning, experience a sense of achievement and develop independence in learning and all other aspects of school life.
This role is classified as temporary due to its direct link to the educational journey of a named pupil. The position will remain active for as long as the pupil attends a school within the Central Region School Trust (CRST). Should the pupil transfer to another CRST school, the postholder would continue their support, following the pupil to any new setting within the Trust. As such, while technically temporary, the role offers long-term potential—supporting the pupil across their school career, providing consistency in provision, and ensuring strong working relationships are maintained throughout their development.
Previous experience working with children is essential, preferably in a school environment. A commitment to equal opportunities, flexibility and strong IT skills are also essential.
