Cover Supervisor job summary

We are seeking an enthusiastic, reliable and motivated Cover Supervisor to join our dedicated team. This is an exciting opportunity for someone who enjoys working with children and is passionate about supporting high-quality learning and positive outcomes for all pupils.

As a Cover Supervisor, you will take responsibility for classes in the absence of the teacher, ensuring pupils remain engaged in learning activities and that lessons run smoothly and effectively. You will confidently supervise classes across the primary age range and support pupils in accessing their learning, including providing assistance with literacy, numeracy and organisational skills where required.

Working closely with teachers and colleagues, you will ensure that pupils are supported to achieve their best, provide feedback on learning, and contribute to maintaining a safe, positive and stimulating learning environment. The role also includes assisting with the preparation of resources, supporting the organisation of staff cover arrangements, undertaking administrative duties and contributing to the wider life of the school.

We are looking for someone who has excellent communication and interpersonal skills, a calm and confident approach, and the ability to build positive relationships with children and adults alike. You will be organised, adaptable and able to work both independently and as part of a team. Experience of working with primary-aged children is desirable, although applicants with transferable skills and a strong commitment to supporting children are encouraged to apply.

In return, we offer the opportunity to work within a friendly and supportive school community where staff wellbeing and professional development are valued. As part of Rise Multi Academy Trust, you will benefit from access to a wider network of colleagues, high-quality training opportunities and the chance to share expertise across a family of schools. Above all, you will be joining a school where your contribution is recognised and where every day presents an opportunity to make a real difference to the lives of children and families.

Set within extensive grounds with excellent outdoor facilities and enjoying strong links with the local community, Barlestone Church of England Primary School is a wonderful place to learn and work. Both the M1 and M42 motorways are within easy reach. Barlestone is a Church of England Primary School is an academy and is member of the RISE multi academy trust. It is a co-educational school with a single intake of children into the Foundation Class at the start of the school year in which they are five. We have just under 200 children on roll. Our school is located in large pleasant grounds and has a number of outdoor play facilities, including an adventure play area, wooden maze seating, a large sports field and three table tennis tables. We have seven large classrooms which are bright, inviting and exciting places to learn and our vision is to inspire, achieve and celebrate together in a Christian learning environment.

We enjoy close ties with the village church and welcome a number of local groups into our school. There is a highly effective PTA, which is very supportive and contributes significant funds for curriculum enhancement activities and resources.

We are a friendly, welcoming school, enjoying considerable support and involvement from our parents.

If you feel that you would like to be part of our community, we very much look forward to receiving your application and thank you for your interest.
