What skills and experience we're looking for

Essential Experience

  • Successful leadership and management experience in a primary school.
  • At least 5 years' teaching experience in a primary school.
  • Proven track record of raising attainment and pupil progress.
  • Experience of monitoring pupil progress, staff performance and policies, ensuring accountability.

Desirable Experience

  • Working effectively with governors and the wider community.
  • Teaching across more than one key stage or subject.
  • Working with external agencies to support pupils and families.
  • Managing a delegated school budget.

Essential Professional Skills

  • Inspiring and motivating staff through a shared vision.
  • Building a positive and accountable school culture.
  • Strategic and operational leadership.
  • Effective stakeholder management, including governors, local authority, parents and external agencies.
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills.

Desirable Professional Skills

  • Developing local, national and international school partnerships.
  • Building and maintaining a professional support network.
  • Using coaching and evidence-informed feedback to improve teaching quality.
  • Maintaining a strong focus on behaviour and attendance.
