What skills and experience we're looking for
We are seeking an enthusiastic and committed Learning Lead for the Explore Pathway to join our team at Wilson Stuart School. This is a leadership role focused on planning, developing, and delivering a semi-formal curriculum tailored to students with Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD). The Explore Pathway integrates physical, academic, social, and emotional needs, ensuring every student’s Personal Learning Goals (PLGs) are at the heart of teaching and learning.
Key responsibilities include:
- Lead the Explore Pathway across the school, raising standards of attainment and achievement.
- Develop and implement a sequenced SLD curriculum that promotes independence and applied learning opportunities.
- Coordinate and manage teachers and teaching assistants within the pathway to ensure high-quality teaching.
- Oversee assessment processes, analyse data trends, and implement interventions to support pupil progress.
- Chair pathway meetings, deliver departmental training, and contribute to whole-school improvement.
- Liaise with parents/carers and external agencies to ensure effective support for students.
- Maintain stimulating learning environments and ensure health and safety compliance.

Education Impact Academy Trust is a MAT incorporating Wilson Stuart School, Queensbury School and Mayfield School. Wilson Stuart School is an Ofsted designated outstanding all age (2 – 25 years) Special School which provides very high-quality education for 257 pupils and young people who have physical disabilities, and/or complex medical conditions. Queensbury School provides for 245 students who have MLD (Moderate Learning Difficulties), ASC (Autistic Spectrum Condition), SLD (Severe Learning Difficulties) and SEMH (Social Emotional and Mental Health). Mayfield School educates children and young people, who have a range of learning difficulties, between the ages of 3 and 19 and have approximately 300 students on roll.
