Student Behaviour Support Officer

Thank you for your interest in working at George Mitchell School. I would like to take this opportunity to tell you about our unique school and to highlight the significance of this important appointment. You are applying to join a staff team that are committed to providing the best opportunities for all students. The school is extremely ambitious and continually improving in all aspects. Therefore, I am looking for exceptional people with energy and drive to join us in this work. You will notice our school ethos and PRIDE values, which embodies the standard of the school we aspire to be.

The school is seeking to appoint an enthusiastic individual with excellent inter-personal skills and be able to communicate effectively with students, parents and school staff. The successful candidate will work under the direction of senior staff to oversee and supervise the school’s student support area/reflection room. The student support area is an internal provision where students who need help to overcome barriers to learning both inside and outside the school reflect on their behaviour and work for a fixed period of time.

This post represents a superb career opportunity for an individual with a proven track record in supporting/working with young people within a school or out of school setting.

We are looking for a Student Behaviour Support Officer who:

- Has proven pastoral experience

- Has a strong understanding of trauma-informed practice and positive behaviour management techniques, supported by relevant professional qualifications/CPD

- Is an effective team worker with strong communication skills and a professional demeanour

- Can act as a role model to staff and pupils in their standards of ethics, behaviour and professional conduct

- Has genuine passion and belief in the potential of every pupil.

Why work at George Mitchell?

The following a recent Ofsted inspection the school was judged as ‘Good’.

We are an all through school which creates the unique opportunity to work across phases which is great for professional development. We are a small school with 4 form entry at secondary and 2 form entry at primary. The size of each year group means that staff get to know individual students and their families really well and form excellent relationships. The school has a ‘community’ feel built on excellent relationships between all staff. Staff turnover is low and wellbeing good.

Our students benefit from new buildings and improved facilities. We have a vast number of computers, interactive whiteboards in every classroom and banks of laptops that are available for student use.

Our focus is on ensuring that every child gets the very best education possible. Our reputation is dependent on the happiness and achievements of all our pupils, which is reflected in our school intent.

George Mitchell is within walking distance from Leyton underground and Leyton Midland station.

Staff also benefit from a range of benefits, including:

- Free onsite parking

- Cycle to work scheme

- Free eye tests

- Employee Assistance Programme

The successful candidate for this post would start September 2026.

If you feel you can meet the needs of all our students without limitation, and are excited to join us, then I look forward to hearing from you further.
