What skills and experience we're looking for

Be the person who helps a child believe they can.

At Bowhill Primary School, we know the moments children remember most are often the ones where they felt safe, valued and truly believed in.

The warm welcome at the classroom door. The encouragement to keep trying. The adult who notices when a child is struggling - and helps them find their confidence again.

These moments matter.

We are looking for a caring, enthusiastic and committed Teaching Assistant to join our warm and welcoming school in Years 5 and 6. Someone who understands that supporting children is about far more than learning alone - it’s about building confidence, nurturing curiosity and helping every child feel they belong.

At Bowhill, our CARE values of Community, Aspiration, Responsibility and Environment are at the heart of everything we do. We are proud to be a school where children are known as individuals, families are valued partners, and staff work together to create the very best opportunities for every child.

As a member of the Bowhill team, you will join a supportive and collaborative staff community where everyone is united by a shared commitment to helping children thrive. You'll be part of a school where relationships matter, successes are celebrated, and every day brings the opportunity to make a lasting difference to a child's life.

We are looking for someone who:

  • genuinely enjoys working with children and building positive relationships
  • brings calmness, kindness, resilience and a sense of humour
  • believes every child deserves to feel successful
  • can support children with a wide range of needs and personalities
  • is proactive, adaptable and willing to get stuck in
  • reflective and driven to get a little better everyday
  • wants to be part of a collaborative, caring school community
  • ideally has an understanding of the upper KS2 curriculum

In this role, you will:

  • support pupils in class, in small groups and sometimes on a 1:1 basis
  • help children access learning and develop confidence and independence
  • work closely with teachers to deliver engaging and inclusive learning experiences
  • support children’s social, emotional and behavioural development
  • celebrate progress-from the smallest breakthrough to the biggest achievement
  • contribute to a calm, safe and purposeful learning environment
  • build positive relationships with families, colleagues and the wider school community
  • play an active part in school life, trips, events and enrichment opportunities

What the school offers its staff

In return, you will join a dedicated and welcoming staff team who care deeply about the children and each other, in a school where kindness, community and opportunity sit at the heart of everything we do.

Because for some children, the right adult really does change everything.
