What skills and experience we're looking for

St Michael’s RC Primary School are currently seeking a Teaching Assistant (Level 1). This is an exciting opportunity to join the Trust at the beginning of a journey of transition, development, and growth within the multi-academy trust.

Working mainly, but not exclusively, with a child with SEN the postholder will support the child to thrive and develop within the school environment. Working alongside the teaching and support staff the postholder will take a full part in the life of the school. Lunchtime cover will also be a responsibility of this role.

We are seeking an individual who:

  • Has experience of working with children in a paid/voluntary capacity
  • Is calm and compassionate with the sensitivity to work with children with Special Educational Needs and their parents/carers
  • Is a team player, understands classroom roles and responsibilities and will support whole-school activity
  • Understands how to keep children safe and can deal calmly and effectively with accidents, emergencies and illness
  • Can contribute to the development of children’s communication, as well as physical, emotional and social needs
  • Will encourage and support children’s rights and choices in play, enabling creativity and offering a range of opportunities
  • Promote positive behaviour, implement agreed behaviour management strategies and support children in taking responsibility for their own learning and behaviour
