What skills and experience we're looking for
Make a Difference Every Day
At Flixton Girls School, we believe every child deserves to be known, valued, supported and challenged to achieve their very best. We are seeking an exceptional Assistant Head of Year to join our ambitious pastoral team and help shape the lives of hundreds of young people.
This is not a desk-based role.
We are looking for someone who thrives on building relationships, solving problems, supporting families and helping young people overcome barriers to success. Every day will be different. One moment, you could be mentoring a student who has lost confidence; the next, supporting a family with attendance concerns, coordinating external agency support, or celebrating a student's achievements.
If you are passionate about young people, believe in high expectations and have the warmth, resilience and determination to make a genuine difference, we would love to hear from you.
Why This Role Matters
As an Assistant Head of Year, you will work alongside an experienced Head of Year to deliver outstanding pastoral care and ensure that every student has the support they need to thrive academically, socially and emotionally.
You will:
- Build strong and trusted relationships with students and families.
- Support behaviour, attendance, wellbeing and safeguarding interventions.
- Be a visible and positive presence around school.
- Help students overcome barriers to learning.
- Deliver mentoring and targeted support for vulnerable students.
- Work closely with tutors, teachers, safeguarding staff and external agencies.
- Play a key role in creating a calm, purposeful and inclusive culture.
This is an ideal opportunity for somebody who is passionate about pastoral work and wants to play a vital role in improving outcomes for young people.
We Are Looking For Someone Who
- Genuinely enjoys working with young people and their families.
- Has experience supporting students in educational, pastoral, youth work, welfare, behaviour or community settings.
- Can build positive, professional relationships quickly.
- Is calm, resilient and solution-focused under pressure.
- Has strong communication and organisational skills.
- Demonstrates excellent judgement and integrity.
- Shares our commitment to safeguarding and inclusion.
- Believes that every young person can succeed with the right support and challenge.
Whether you are currently working in a school, youth service, pastoral role, family support setting or similar environment, we would welcome your application.
